BAD OMEN

 BAD THINGS HAPPEN ON A BAD DAY…

It’s been a month since when I was forcefully initiated into their cult. After my failed escape plan, they’d thrown me into a room that made it more difficult for me to see the light of day. They starved me for two days, sapping all the strength in me, then went ahead to initiate me.

Today, we’re suppose to go on an operation that’d be my first. They gave me a gun, even after I protested I wouldn’t be needing one.

According to what I heard, we’d be hitting a wealthy family in another part of town.

The plan was simple; we’d get in, threaten them, grab all their money and jewelries, then bounce off. Simple! No bloodshed was intended;

But that was only on paper.

We got to the scene in one piece, pulled out our guns, scaled the fence, and landed in the compound.

Where the bad omen of the operation peered its ugly head was when we realized there were dogs in the compound; our spy didn’t do a good job in giving us all the details we needed.

As the dogs barked and charged towards us, we had no other option but to shoot them. The gunshots were really loud, and if the barking didn’t wake our targets, surely, the gunshots did. So, we moved fast.

We had infiltrated the house, arrayed our targets on the floor, and were asking for money, while one of us searched parts the house.

It was a five man squad. James was upstairs with the owner of the house, his wife, children, and other members of the family were downstairs with their faces on the floor, while a member of the gang, and I watched over them.

One of us was searching the house for jewelries, while the last man was outside kept watch outside. It was barely twenty minutes since we got in, that we heard some gunshots outside, and our man outside was shouting. We didn’t here him clearly, so, the guy with me dashed out to get a clear glimpse of what was happening.

“Police don land o!” he screamed running back into the house.

“Move! Move! Move!” ordered James, running down the stairs.

This was going to be the second time I’d be involved in a shootout, and I didn’t even know how to shout except how I saw it done in movies. But this was not a movie. This was real life. These were trained policemen, shooting at us. I could die from this encounter. I may not come out of this.

My heart was pounding, my hands were fidgeting, and my legs grew weak from where I stood.

“Move, man!” shouted James, grabbing me by the arms.
