Records that Liverpool can Break this Season

The leaders are on course to  break records and make history in a number of ways as we look at the Premier League marks under threat

They have been close to unstoppable this season and Liverpool are on course to challenge several Premier League records in the remainder of 2019/20.

Jurgen Klopp’s league leaders sit 13 points clear at the top of the table and, as they target a first Premier League title, they can rewrite history along the way.

Here are the records under threat by the Reds, the first of which could be broken as soon as this weekend.

Best start after 21 matches

If Liverpool win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, they will surpass Manchester City’s best start to a season after 21 matches.

City drew their 21st match of 2017/18 to accrue 59 points, one more than Liverpool currently have after 20.

Most consecutive home wins

Klopp’s side are two away from the record again held by Man City, who claimed 20 home victories from 2011 to 2012.

Liverpool’s next home match is against Manchester United, the only team they’ve dropped points against this season, before they host Southampton and West Ham United.

Most consecutive wins

Liverpool’s total of 11 straight victories is seven short of City’s record from August to December 2017.

Maintaining their winning run would result in a new mark being set at Watford on 29 February.

Longest unbeaten run

Can Liverpool outdo the “Invincibles”?

Liverpool are currently 37 matches unbeaten, 12 shy of Arsenal’s history makers, who went 49 without defeat throughout 2003/04 and into the following season.

If Liverpool do stay unbeaten, they will have the chance to match Arsenal’s run at Man City on 4 April, and could get to 50 at home to Aston Villa a week later.

Fewest defeats in a season

Liverpool are yet to taste defeat this campaign and so can still match Arsenal’s unbeaten season of 2003/04.

Most wins in a season

Man City won 32 matches in both of the past two campaigns. Liverpool are 13 victories away from that figure with 18 matches left to play.

Most points in a season

Liverpool are on course to smash the record of 100, set by Man City in 2017/18.

The Reds have dropped points in only one match this season so if they win their remaining fixtures they will finish on 112 points. They could lose three matches and draw another and still beat City’s total if they win the 14.

Most home wins in a season

Three teams have managed 18 home wins in a season: Chelsea (2005/06), Man Utd (2010/11) and Man City (2011/12 and 2018/19). Liverpool have won all 11 this term and so have a chance to reach 19.

Their remaining Anfield fixtures are against Man Utd, Southampton, West Ham, AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea.

Most away wins in a season

Liverpool have won eight of their nine away matches this term so are on course to match Man City’s record of 16 in 2017/18. They could even surpass it on the final day, at Newcastle United.

Longest time unbeaten

Liverpool have gone over a year unbeaten in the Premier League, last losing to Man City on 3 January 2019.

Arsenal went 537 days without defeat between May 2003 and Oct 2004, a feat that would be surpassed should Klopp’s team not lose in 2019/20, that length of time being surpassed on 23 June 2020.
