STACEY FRU, AFRICA’S YOUNGEST AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR
Stacey Fru born on the 16th of February 2007 is a South African author, philanthropist, speaker, and child activist. She became the youngest award-winning author in Africa at the age of 7.
According to Independent Online, Stacey published her debut novel ‘Smelly Cats’ at the age of 7 making her Africa’s youngest published author. The book was approved by the South African Department of Basic Education and was given the privilege to be used for young learners from Early Childhood to Primary School Education.
The book ‘Smelly Cats’ earned Stacey Fru several accolades and recognition both locally and internationally. The awards she had won include:
- the 2016 NBA best EDC publication: Special Mention category.
- 2016 Young Leader award for her leading motivational and inspirational roles
- Academic Achievements and Initiatives in 2016 for her writings at the East Wave Radio Nelson Mandela International Community Day Leadership Award.
Stacey became the youngest founding member of the Wits University Center for Multilingual Education and Literacy in 2016 and in May of the same year, she launched another version of Smelly Cats, ‘Smelly Cats on Vacation.’ In the same month, she launched her foundation ‘The Stacey Fru Foundation’ whose main objective is to empower young people in Africa.
Apart from being an author, Stacey writes stories, poems, speeches, essays, and songs. She’s also a ballerina and a guitarist, a storyteller, a motivational speaker, a poet, a teacher, and a TV talk show host. Other than her first book, she has published two books ‘Where is Tammy’ and ‘Tim’s Answer.’
Stacey has been to several TV talk shows where she talked about her journey and also inspired others that it’s not too late to chase and achieve their dreams. At the age of 8, she had her first speech at the AngloGold Ashanti Career Expo and by the age of 12, she had given public talks to over 40,000 people in different countries in and out of Africa.
Stacey Fru is not just an author, she is also a philanthropist and through her foundation, she had donated both material and non-material things to teach, motivate, and encourage others both young and old folks.
