BALLON D’OR 2022 NOMINEES

The 66th edition of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award is set to take place earlier this year due to a change in format which is expected to take place from this year on.

The football prize, presented and nominated by France Football, and voted on by International Journalists, will be awarded for performances of footballers over a full season from this year on instead of the previous years which was awarded based on players’ displays in a calendar year.

The previous edition of the Ballon d’Or was won by Lionel Messi making it the seventh time he is winning the award. In second place is Cristiano Ronaldo with a total of five, having won it last in 2017.

For the previous edition of the women’s Ballon d’Or, also known as Ballon d’Or Féminin, the award was won by Alexis Putellas.

For this year’s nominations, Asisat Oshoala, five times best female African football player made it to the list of the Ballon d’Or Féminin nominees following her achievements at the Club and International levels.

Ballon d’Or 2022 will take place on October 17, 2022, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

The ceremony will feature the presentation of the Kopa Trophy (award for U-21 best performing player) and the Yashin Trophy (award for the best goalkeeper).
