The Young Africa Leaders Initiative (YALI), Cross River State Chapter, is set to Inaugurate her excos for the year 2025 as new leadership emerges, which is led by Mr JohnCollins Idim
The event, which is scheduled to be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the American Corner, Calabar will herald the new dawn of the YALI in the state.
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a flagship program of the United States government, currently investing in Africa’s next generation of leaders.
Supervised by the United State Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria; US Embassy Nigeria and US Department of State, YALI empowers young Africans with skills, knowledge, and networking opportunities to drive positive change in their communities and countries.
The election of the new leaders which was held on Friday, December 13, 2024, saw the emergence of Mr. JohnCollins Idim as the State Coordinator, Amb. God’slove-Divine as the Deputy State Coordinator/Director of Partnership, Comr. Victor Asuquo as Secretary, Mr. John Osu as the Assistant Secretary, Pharm. Mary Obi as Financial Secretary, Hon. Racheal Bassey as Program Officer, Miss Augusta Ezike as Treasurer and Mr. Emmanuel Bassey as Communications and Social Media Manager.
The event will also feature award presentations, the induction of new members, and lots more.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a signature program of the United States government, launched in 2010 by President Barack Obama. YALI aims to empower young African leaders to become active agents of positive change in their communities, countries, and the continent. Sct Omojefe Kennedy Orezime started YALI Cross River State Hub in 2018 and was formally inaugurated in 2019 with the support of other key stakeholders ( Victor, Matthew, Emmanuel, Sarah, Gabriel, Tegiri and many others)
YALI’s mission is to invest in the next generation of African leaders, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to drive economic growth, prosperity, and peace in Africa.
YALI has several program components, including:
1. Mandela Washington Fellowship: A flagship program that brings young African leaders to the United States for six weeks of academic coursework, leadership training, and networking.
2. YALI Regional Leadership Centers: Four regional centers located in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa, offering training, mentorship, and networking opportunities for young African leaders.
3. YALI Online Courses: A platform offering free online courses and resources on leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.
4. YALI Network: A community of over 500,000 young African leaders, providing a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
YALI has had a significant impact on young African leaders, with many alumni going on to become successful entrepreneurs, activists, and leaders in their respective fields. Some notable achievements include:
– Over 5,000 Mandela Washington Fellows have participated in the program since its inception.
– YALI Regional Leadership Centers have trained over 20,000 young African leaders.
– YALI Online Courses have reached over 1 million young Africans.
