BURNA BOY, TEMS NOMINATED FOR 65TH GRAMMY AWARDS

Nigerian music stars, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy and Temilade Openiyi known as Tems have both been nominated for the 65th annual edition of the Grammy awards.

Tems was nominated alongside Future and Drake for Best Melodic Rap performance for the song ‘Wait for U’. The song was also nominated in the Best Rap Song category.

She also received a nomination for being part of Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ album which was nominated in the Album of the Year category. This made it a total of 3 nominations for the female star.

Burna Boy also known as ‘African Giant’ is not new to the awards after winning his first award in 2021 for Best Global Music Album for his album ‘Twice as Tall’.

For this year’s nomination, Burna Boy was nominated in the Global Music Album and Global Music Performance categories for his sixth studio album ‘Love, Damini’ and his single ‘Last Last’ respectively. This has earned him his fifth and sixth nominations for the Grammy awards, the highest of any afrobeat artist.

With the two nominations, Burna Boy set a record of becoming the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for the award for the fourth consecutive year.

Beyoncé leads the nomination list with nine nominations, Kendrick Lamar with eight, and Adele and Brandi Carlile with seven each.

The 2023 Grammys, officially known as the 65th Grammys Awards will be held on February 5, 2023, in Los Angeles.
