However, with the release of the World Cup theme song featuring Nigerian hip hop star Davido, the tournament is sure to have a taste of Nigeria in it represented by OBO.
David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992), popularly known as Davido, is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, etc. He shot into prominence with the release of his song Dami Duro in his debut album Omo Baba Olowo which has also earned him the nickname OBO in 2012. Since then, the Nigerian sensation has excited the senses of Nigerian music lovers with hit songs such as Aye, Fall, If, Assurance, etc. His singles Blow my Mind featuring American singer Chris Brown was a great thrill. His latest album A Better Time released in November 2020 featured hit songs such as Jowo, The Best, etc.
It is no wonder that this Nigerian star is featured in the official theme song of the 2022 World Cup. Hayya Hayya (Better Together), which is the title of the theme song, has Trinidad Cardona, Aisha, and Davido on it giving it that unique cultural flavour and sound. So, even when Nigeria has failed to qualify for the world cup, OBO has got us covered. He has become the first Nigerian singer to be featured in a World Cup single.
What a great win this is for Nigeria, to be ably represented on the 2022 World Cup stage via good music! And surely, this is a foreshadowing of all the boundaries Nigeria in particular and African countries as a whole will break in the nearest future.
