Paul Pogba hasn’t played for Manchester United Football Club in 2020. Injuries have derailed his season, while I think it’s fair to say his future at Old Trafford remains up in the air.
With the Red Devils gearing up for a restart, all eyes turn to Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday. One player who seemingly won’t be in the team from the off is Pogba..
That’s according to the excellent Laurie Whitwell in The Athletic. Apparently, the Frenchman is ‘unlikely’ to start against Jose Mourinho’s Spurs, while United are working on an XI without Pogba.
In my humble opinion, that certainly makes sense. After all, six months without kicking a competitive ball is a mightily long time. Yes, everyone is in a similar boat due to football being postponed since March, but it makes sense to ease Pogba back into it.
The worst thing that can happen is to rush him back in from the start and Pogba to pick up yet another lengthy injury. Lockdown has helped United in that regard and it’s up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to play it right.
Plus, the trio of Scott McTominay, Fred and Bruno Fernandes were performing at an incredibly-high level before lockdown. Pogba’s not a bad option to have on the bench though for now, eh?
