Untold Stories of Me: Episode Four (Daniel My Crush)

john

“Lexa, let me see your teeth now…” asked Daniel. “No, I’m not letting you see it”, I replied.

“So you’re shy to show me your teeth?” Daniel said. I was back at school after four days. It’s was break time and I was sitting with Daniel, he was scanning my body to see my injuries.

“If you’re shy to show others your teeth, should you be shy to show me?” he said slightly pinching my cheek which made me blush. “OK, OK, I’ll show you”, I opened my mouth for a brief second to show him my cracked tooth and looked away immediately in embarrassment. “Aww, your teeth still look fine, and you’re cute when you’re shy and feeling embarrassed”, I blushed even harder.

“I’m sorry about the accident, and the fact that you missed school. I really missed you”.

“I missed you too, Daniel”. “I’m going to the cafeteria to buy something, do you want ice cream?” he asked. “Yes! Yes! Thank you, buy my favorite o!” I said in excitement. “Okay”, he said why chuckling as he left for the cafeteria.

This story isn’t a love story between me and Daniel, I’ve had other “Daniels” in my journey as a human female. This story is about a struggle with life and my survival. How I overcame and won the battle with death.

I’ve had other minor accidents that I can’t really remember probably because they weren’t as severe as the ones I’ve narrated and the one I’m going to tell you about, the last one that was supposed to definitely bring an end to my sojourn on earth.

It was a terrible experience because I did not just have a brush with death but I also lost my friend, a sister. She died in an instant right before my eyes, I could not save her. For the first time in my life, I saw the expression “Lying in a pool of blood”. I felt shocked as I’ve never felt before.

It should have been me, it should have been the both of us at least, not just her. I could not comprehend what had happened. We were together on the bike, one second we were talking and the next, it was screams and clashes and then silence. I had escaped, I turned back to check for my friend but she was lying on the roadside, not moving.

We were friends for barely five months but it felt like we’ve been friends for five years. We turned sisters, shared each other’s pain, happiness, sadness, heartbreak… Hell! We cursed each other a lot. She was an angel, the best thing that happened to me at that time…

Her name was Oluwatomisin…
