The collaboration between Cross River Ministry of Culture and Tourism Development and Akwa Ibom Ministry of Culture and Tourism has given birth to the FIRST Akwa-Cross Cycling Parade in Calabar.
The parade with theme “Cycling for Humanity” started this morning Saturday March 14, 2020.
The group of bikers gathered at the starting point at “11” Roundabout, by Calabar Road close to U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar Municipality.
Akwa-Cross, a collaboration of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States respectively has been a group with chapters scattered throughout the Federation and abroad even in Tertiary Institution. The association has groups all over social media handles to connect indigenes of both states. Cultural heritage are being upheld by members of the association irrespective of their location.
The event is endorsed by the Cross River State Ministry of Sports and Cinematography with aim to serve as a platform for promoting sister States social integration beyond borders as well as take the marketing of the State’s tourism products a step further.
In an interview, the Cross River Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Mr Eric Anderson told media that over 500 motorcyclists would participate in the parade scheduled for Calabar South Local Government Area, adding that it was a conscious effort to include the area in the tourism map of the State as well as the Federation.
he also added that the parade will see over 500 cyclists cycle from 11-11 Roundabout through Calabar road, Edgerley, Mayne Avenue, Goldie, Etta-Agbor and into Calabar Municipality LGA through IBB Way, Marian, MCC, Diamond Hill and terminate at Marina Resort.
The Cycling showpiece is Powered by the Canaan Cyclers, Dynamic Cyclers and eMachine, with the support of Heritage Bank, Cross River State Signage and Advertising Agency (CRISSAA) and the Cross River Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS.)
