WARDROBE MALFUNCTION

First…what is wardrobe malfunction yeah? as this might be the first time some of us have come across this word. The pop-culture fanatics might have seen it in one or more celebrity publications.

But I’ll make it simple, it’s what I’m here for…you’re welcome 😁

Now have you ever been out to a party or just generally any place public or even at a family gathering with extended family and friends looking particularly stunning and radiant and then the unexpected happens, either your dress rips, or all the while your underwear was on display, or your zip comes undone. In a matter of seconds what was a beautiful, amazing moment turns into a nightmare. That my friends are the perfect illustrations for wardrobe malfunction.

Borrowing from Wiki however… “A wardrobe malfunction describes a clothing failure that accidentally, or perhaps intentionally, exposes a person’s intimate parts. It is different from deliberate incidents of indecent exposure or public flashing”.

According to Wikipedia, pop-culture credits the use of the term to Justin Timberlake who first used the term when apologizing for the super bowl XXXVII halftime-show controversy during the 2004 Grammy awards where he exposed Janet Jackson’s breast adorned with a nipple shield. Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! honestly if you ask me despite the many opinions people hold they both let the high of the performance get to them and they made wrong decisions and I think that’s why Wikipedia included intentionally to their definition. Now let me clarify, you might plan on flashing a little boob but when it doesn’t happen the way you planned and the whole thing ends up popping outta your dress, now that’s a wardrobe malfunction (Nicki Minaj has a thing or two to say about this particular kind of experience but unfortunately couldn’t be reached for comments. Maybe next time!).

While there exists those who intentionally call the wrath of the universe upon themselves by means of a wardrobe malfunction, there are genuinely unlucky people and some of us have been one of them. I know, I’ve had my own fair share of very unlucky experiences and truthfully they were the most embarrassing, emotionally challenging minutes of my life, but I took each blow and learnt from it and evolved. And because I’m a super generous fairy, I’ll drop some tips on how to handle wardrobe malfunctions

  • When faced with an embarrassing situation such as a wardrobe malfunction, you have to decide all the time to handle such situations the best way you can and as quietly as possible so those who didn’t notice, really don’t have to. Try to stay calm and please don’t panic.
  • Well I always, always carry my essentials (scissor or razor, thread preferably black and a sewing needle, a shawl or head-tie). Wardrobe malfunctions are accidents and as such unforeseeable, so after series of unexpected embarrassing moments, I stuck to this rule to avoid tears.

Wardrobe

  • Do not relive these incidents, tell friends or the people who were present to never repeat or tease especially when the experience was extremely embarrassing and painful not until you’re comfortable enough to make light jokes but it’s better to let bygones be bygones.
  • Be yourself, you don’t have to force funny or try to make light the situation right away especially when you’re obviously hurting, not everyone is built the same. So deal with the situation as naturally as possible while still maintaining composure.
  • Try not to overreact, they say your true colours show under pressure or when faced with a difficult situation. Try not to succumb, especially when someone else was at fault, say someone steps on you and rips your dress, stay calm, smile and move on. (I see you rolling your eyes, “easier said than done” I know but still a very valuable tip)
  • And of course, be a guardian angel. If you see someone in an embarrassing situation, please do not hesitate to help, as little as a smile and an “it’ll be alright” might just be the healing balm that person needs. Remember kindness never goes unrewarded.

Lastly, suffering from a wardrobe malfunction never killed anybody, not even if it happens in the presence of your crush. Everyone has had one or more embarrassing moments on this earth, your crush included.

So suck it up and remember a wardrobe malfunction in the presence of a lot of famous people did not stop Nicki Minaj from being one of the most celebrated female rappers of all time. So determine today to turn every bad situation into a win, you are not defined by the mistakes of yesterday but how you choose to let it affect your future.

Make sure to let Fashion Fairy know how you feel, and feel free to drop your own experiences in the comment section, how you dealt with it and what you took from it.

Kisses

And until next time

Stay safe and remember this too shall pass…

GOD BLESS.

This mostly happen to celebrity/ public figures and I think the reason is that they pay more or probably all their attention to the design and fail to stitch necessary points on the dress that may fail.

Fashion designers should be mindful that in as much as the design should be achieved, the aim of the dress is to cover the person displaying it. It should be tested against malfunction before been worn to a major event…

I was once asked out by a guy who had his zipper down the entire time and I saw his pink brief when he discovered it was opened he became uncomfortable, that was the last time we spoke . I’ve also been a victim of that too, I wore a white turtle neck to school and I didn’t realize my boobs were showing the entire time when I realized it was , I borrowed a scarf from my friend and turned it into another style . Guess all that matters really is your attitude after it has happened, you can turn it into something good.

Nice one Goodie. Remembering old experiences sound’s so hilarious. Actually, once in a while, i purposely put on some of those torn clothes sha based on no reaching out to something good to put on, but guess what, I try to spice them up as regards covering them to avoid embracement. Before putting it on, I plan myself from home so as to avoid something embracing and afterwards I end having a good day.
