May 11, has been for history a day of celebration of the remembrance of Legendary Bob Marley. Been the day he died at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami (now University of Miami Hospital) in 1981 at age 36.
Events are set aside on this day to celebrate Marley’s music, his lifestyle and the ideals he stood for.
Fans of Marley and lovers of Reggae music around the world make it a point of duty to mark this occasion with fun filled activities especially making music in remembrance of the King of Reggae.
On May 11, 2006, Khady Black, a popular Sierra Leonean rastafarian and Roots reggae musician thrilled reggae fan at the national stadium at Freetown.
Freetown — To remember the death of the King of Reggae music, Bob Marley Sierra Leone’s only female reggae artist, Khady Black born Khadija Fofanah will perform at a live band show at the National Stadium May 11 (today) to entertain reggae fans from all over the country. Khady Black is celebrating the 25th death anniversary of the King of Reggae whose songs have transformed a generation of people all over the world. – All Africa
She performed along side other Sierra Leonean Reggae musicians like Hamaz Links and KTC. The concert is organized by the Supreme Inc.
On May 11, 2018, Nigeria was not left out. A concert titled “Marley United” was organized to celebrate the Reggae Icon. The occasion was graced by legendary Raz kimono and Jah Bouks. The 6:00pm till mama’s call event was hosted at Mashoria Arena. Gwarimpa. Abuja.
Celebration of Marley Night has long lasting tradition for Rastafarians and reggae lovers around the world.
Unfortunately, this year will be an exception due to the outbreak of the dreadful Corona Virus which has not only restricted movement but also put a pause to fun fair activities. Many folks who have looked up to this day are surely disappointed at the outcome. Some may not even remember probably due to illness or lost of loved ones.
But we must continue to look at the bright side at least, that’s what the legend would have done.
In one of his tracks “Three Little Birds”, He sang about the need to forsake our worries, believing, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Everything indeed will be alright. This is Marley’s message to we people.
